Khataman Nabiyeen & the Promised Messiah

March 28th, 2008 by Khanverse

Many wonder how Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) could claim prophethood if the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) is the “Khataman Nabiyeen.”

Here are some resources to explain the issue and references from the Quran as necessary.

Here are Ahmad’s (as) claims

Elaborate explanations on the term Khataman Nabiyeen:

Finality of Prophethood (pdf)

The Holy Prophet (saw) called Ali (ra) the Khatamul Auylia but no sane muslim thinks this means he was the FINAL saint ever to come. Just that he took sainthood to its perfection and none will ever come as saints who will supercede him.

and from the Quran we know that prophets can come as adduced from the verse in al-Nisa

[4:70] And whoso obeys Allah and this Messenger shall be among those on whom Allah has bestowed His blessings - the Prophets, the Truthful, the Martyrs, and the Righteous. And an excellent company are they.

Also the Quran speaks of the 2nd advent of the Holy Prophet (saw) HIMSELF!

[62:3] He it is Who has raised among the unlettered people a Messenger from among themselves who recites unto them His Signs, and purifies them, and teaches them the Book and Wisdom though before that they were in manifest error;

[62:4] And He will raise him among others of them who have not yet joined them He is the Mighty, the Wise

^there is a well-known hadith about this verse that says the man will come from the people of Salman Farsi (ra)

the name of “Ahmad” is also in the Quran, though some scholars see this as meaning Muhammad (saw)

[61:7] And call to mind when Jesus, son of Mary, said, ‘O children of Israel, surely, I am Allah’s Messenger unto you, fulfilling that which is before me of the prophecies of the Torah, and giving glad tidings of a Messenger who will come after me, his name being Ahmad.
And when he came to them with clear proofs, they said, this is manifest sorcery.’

^ We believe the names are similar because Ahmad (as) was a servant of Rasulullah (saw), and as such, a perfect disciple/follower who by perfectly following the example of Muhammad Mustafa (saw) was given prophethood in accordance with the Quranic verse 4:70 above.

also the Imam Mahdi which was to come was also mentioned in the Quran.
How could a man who is mentioned in the same breath as Moses (as) and Muhammad (saw) NOT be a Prophet? :

[11:18] Can he, then, who stands upon a clear proof from his Lord, and to testify to whose truth a witness from Him shall follow him, and who was preceded by the Book of Moses, a guide and a mercy, be an imposter? Those who are the true followers of Moses believe therein, and whoever of the opposing parties disbelieve in it, the Fire shall be his promised place. So be not thou, O reader, in doubt about it. Surely, it is the truth from thy Lord; but most men believe not.

May Allah guide all seekers to the Truth…

Wassalam
